It all began in **2004**, when I was painting my **1949 Buick Super**. I painted it white but wanted it to have an **iridescent, color-shifting look**. I visited a local paint store and was **shocked** to find that a **tiny amount of pearl pigment** from a **major brand** (Dupont®) cost **$30 for just 20 grams**! That moment sparked an idea: **There had to be a more affordable way** to get high-quality pearl pigments. So, I began researching, and after extensive **trial and error**, I discovered the right manufacturers and **imported our first batch of Phantom Pearls®**.
📦 From eBay to Our Own Store – The Birth of Paint With Pearl
We **started small**, packaging our **25-gram bags** of pigments and selling them under our eBay store, **69_Muscle**. But when I was **laid off from my job**, I decided to take a **huge leap of faith**. Using my **severance pay**, I **taught myself web development** and built our first website— a simple online store to accompany our growing eBay business. In just **two months**, Paint With Pearl was born. **Now, 10 years later,** our **original website is still visible** at retro.paintwithpearl.com, and we’ve expanded our catalog to include **hundreds of colors and special effect pigments**.
