Ordinary Slate Tiles from Home Depot – Untreated.

We purchased some bargain slate tiles from Home Depot at just $1.49 per square foot and treated them with various Phantom Pearls. The ratio used was 1 bag (25 grams) per quart of concrete and tile sealer. We opted for a glossy sealer, but pearls can also be mixed into a matte sealer. These photos were taken under sunlight from two different angles to showcase how Phantom Pearls reveal their color in reflected light. From certain angles, the pearls may be nearly invisible, but in direct sunlight, they shine beautifully. We used Gold Shimmer Ghost Pearl, Blue Satin Ghost Pearl, Red Ghost Pearl, and Green Ghost Pearl. We also applied all four ghost pearls to a single tile to mimic the iridescent shimmer of an abalone shell. Using four separate paper towels dipped into different colors, we lightly swirled the pigments onto the tile. The result was an incredible finish—achieved with minimal effort!
The beauty of this “Mother of Pearl” effect is that it can be applied on a large scale after tiles are laid but before grouting. Imagine how stunning this would look on concrete countertops! No special tools are required—anyone can achieve this effect. Similar designer tiles often sell for over $10 per square foot, while this method costs only an estimated $0.10 per square foot to achieve. With our bulk discounts, larger flooring areas can enjoy significant savings while adding a luxurious, high-end finish for a fraction of the cost. Additionally, our Phantom Pearls are UV-resistant and will never fade, making them perfect for exterior applications. They will last as long as the sealer they are mixed with.
